Kochi: Rapper Vedan has denied the rape allegations made against him and announced his decision to seek anticipatory bail from the Kerala High Court. Claiming that the case is a targeted and planned conspiracy, Vedan stated he has evidence to prove his innocence, which he intends to make public soon.
The Thrikkakara Police registered the case based on a complaint filed by a young woman doctor from Kozhikode. She alleged that Vedan sexually assaulted her at multiple locations between August 2021 and March 2023, under the false promise of marriage.
The duo reportedly met through social media, and the first incident allegedly occurred at the woman’s flat in Kozhikode. The complaint states that Vedan continued to exploit her emotionally and physically, promising marriage throughout their relationship.
Following the end of their relationship, the woman approached the police with her complaint. Officers confirmed that a formal investigation has begun, and a detailed statement from the survivor has been recorded. Further legal action will follow based on the investigation.
The case was registered under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, applicable since the incidents occurred before the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita came into force. As the alleged crime took place within the Thrikkakara station limits, the case was filed in Kochi.
