Railways Ministry Orders X to Remove 285 Stampede Videos, Citing Ethical Concerns

New Delhi: In response to the tragic February 15 stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, which claimed at least 18 lives, the Ministry of Railways has directed social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to remove 285 links containing videos of the incident.

Citing ethical concerns, the ministry warned that the circulation of such sensitive content could incite public unrest and disrupt railway operations, particularly during peak travel periods. The notice, issued on February 17, urged X to take down the videos within 36 hours to prevent further distress and operational challenges.

The stampede occurred as thousands of passengers rushed to board trains bound for the Maha Kumbh festival in Prayagraj, leading to widespread chaos. In an effort to curb the spread of distressing footage, authorities have taken swift action to ensure responsible content sharing.

This move underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining public order while respecting the sensitivities surrounding such tragic events.
