New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will arrive in Manipur today for a two-day visit — her first trip to the state since assuming office. President Murmu will be welcomed with a Guard of Honour upon her arrival, and security has been significantly tightened across Imphal in view of the high-profile visit.
Ahead of her arrival, beautification works have been carried out along the Imphal Airport road. The government has also put up banners and hoardings across the city to welcome the President. Notably, Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13 following the violent unrest in the state.
After landing in Imphal, President Murmu will receive the Guard of Honour and later visit the historic Mapal Kangjeibung to witness a traditional polo exhibition match. In the evening, President Murmu will attend a reception hosted by the Manipur government at the City Convention Centre, where President Murmu is scheduled to lay the foundation stones for several development projects and inaugurate a few others.
On December 12, the President will visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex to pay tribute to the brave women warriors of Manipur, honouring their legacy and contributions to the state’s history.
