Thiruvananthapuram: The controversy surrounding the marriage of Kumbh Mela viral personality Monalisa Bhosle has intensified, with authorities indicating that additional charges may be invoked alongside the existing POCSO case.
According to Prakash Uyke, legal advisor to the State Commission for Scheduled Tribes, charges under the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act are also likely to be filed. He stated that individuals involved in preparing an alleged fake birth certificate would be made accused in the case. Uyke also alleged that there was a wider conspiracy behind the incident.
The case had earlier taken a turn after findings linked to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes indicated discrepancies in the girl’s age at the time of marriage. Based on hospital records from Madhya Pradesh, the girl is reported to have been born on December 30, 2009, making her 16 years and two months old at the time of the wedding.
Following these findings, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against her husband, Farman Khan.
The marriage took place on March 11 at the Arumanoor Sree Nainar Deva Temple.
Authorities suspect that the marriage may have been conducted using forged documents, prompting further investigation into those involved. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has directed the Directors General of Police of Kerala and Madhya Pradesh to appear in Delhi in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, there have been demands for a probe into the alleged role of certain political figures who supported the marriage. Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), who are reported to have been associated with the ceremony, have not yet responded to the allegations.
Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the alleged irregularities.
