PM Modi Reviews India’s Push to Eliminate TB by 2025: Calls for Nationwide Action and Public Participation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2025—five years ahead of the global target set by the World Health Organization. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, brought together key officials including Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Principal Secretary to the PM Dr. P.K. Mishra, and Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava.

PM Modi stressed the importance of a “whole-of-government and whole-of-society” approach to fight TB and emphasized the need for active community engagement. He reviewed the outcomes of the recent 100-Day TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, during which 12.97 crore people were screened, resulting in the detection of over 7.19 lakh TB cases—including 2.85 lakh asymptomatic ones.

The Prime Minister also urged for the expansion of effective strategies across the country, with a strong focus on early detection, treatment, and understanding TB trends across demographics and geographies. He highlighted the importance of sanitation and Jan Bhagidari (public participation) as crucial tools in the TB elimination drive.

India’s National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) has reported notable reductions in TB incidence and mortality. The government plans to continue leveraging cutting-edge diagnostics, data-driven interventions, and collaborative efforts across sectors to reach its 2025 target.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication, PM Modi called on all stakeholders to accelerate efforts and work together to build a TB-free India.
