PM Modi Pays Tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh: India Mourns the Loss of a Visionary Leader

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. In his heartfelt tribute, PM Modi lauded Dr. Singh’s immense contributions to India’s economic transformation and his dedication to public service.

“India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he became a respected economist and served in various government positions, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy. As Prime Minister, he worked tirelessly to improve people’s lives,” PM Modi stated.

Reflecting on their professional association, PM Modi added, “Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji and I interacted regularly when he was PM and I was the CM of Gujarat. We had extensive deliberations on governance, and his wisdom and humility always stood out.”

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, played a pivotal role in shaping India’s economic future. As Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, he introduced landmark economic reforms that transformed India’s economy and set the stage for sustained growth.

The passing of Dr. Singh has united leaders across political lines in paying heartfelt tributes to his enduring legacy. His vision, integrity, and steadfast leadership remain etched in India’s history.

In his honor, the government has declared a seven-day period of national mourning, during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country.

Dr. Singh’s contributions to India will continue to inspire generations, and his loss is deeply felt by the nation he served with such dedication.
