Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday evening to inaugurate the Vizhinjam International Seaport — Kerala’s long-awaited maritime gateway to global trade. The historic inauguration of the state-of-the-art port, fully operational and ready to transform India’s shipping landscape, will take place at 11 AM on Friday at a dedicated venue within the port premises.
Joining the Prime Minister at the event will be Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian, State Minister V.N. Vasavan, MP Shashi Tharoor, and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.
After touching down at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at 7:50 PM on Thursday, PM Modi proceeded directly to Raj Bhavan. On Friday morning, his schedule begins at 9:30 AM with a departure to Pangode Military Camp, followed by a helicopter ride to Vizhinjam.
At 10:30 AM, the Prime Minister will ceremonially welcome MSC Celestino Maresca — the mother vessel anchored at the port — before touring the facilities and addressing the public. Post-event, he will return to Pangode and proceed to Raj Bhavan, from where he is slated to depart for Hyderabad at 12:30 PM.
With the high-profile visit and inauguration underway, tight security measures have been deployed throughout the city to ensure smooth proceedings.
