PM Modi Gives Armed Forces Full Autonomy to Respond After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that left 26 civilians—mostly tourists—dead, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that the Indian armed forces have been given full freedom to determine the mode, target, and timing of their response.

Speaking at a high-level security review meeting, PM Modi condemned the incident as one of the most heinous terror strikes in Kashmir in recent years, assuring the nation that those responsible will not go unpunished.

“The armed forces have complete freedom to decide the nature of the response, be it the method, target, or timing,” he asserted, underlining India’s firm stance against terrorism.

The attack, which targeted tourists near the scenic town of Pahalgam, has triggered nationwide grief and widespread anger. In its aftermath, security agencies have intensified surveillance, launched extensive intelligence operations, and begun recalibrating counter-terror strategies.

According to government sources, India is considering a multi-pronged retaliation, which may include cross-border operations, diplomatic action, and enhanced internal security measures. Granting the military complete operational autonomy highlights the gravity of the government’s response.

PM Modi also extended his deep condolences to the victims’ families, reinforcing his message that India will not bow to terror.
