Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 45th edition of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) on December 26, 2024, where he focused on accelerating key infrastructure projects and addressing public grievances.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
Review of Major Infrastructure Projects: The Prime Minister reviewed eight high-priority projects, including six metro urban transport projects and one project each for road connectivity and thermal power generation. These projects span across various states and Union Territories, with a combined investment of over ₹1 lakh crore.
Emphasis on Timely Project Execution: PM Modi emphasized that delays in project completion lead to cost escalations and prevent the public from benefiting from these initiatives. He urged both central and state governments to focus on the timely delivery of projects to ensure they reach the people as intended.
Focus on Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R): Highlighting the importance of R&R for families affected by project implementation, PM Modi called for providing them with quality amenities and better living conditions in their new locations to ensure a smooth transition.
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: The Prime Minister reviewed the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and instructed states to adopt a saturation approach for villages, towns, and cities in a phased manner. He also stressed the development of a strong vendor ecosystem to speed up rooftop solar installations and reduce operational delays.
Metro Projects Workshops: As metro systems continue to expand in urban India, PM Modi suggested conducting workshops for cities with existing or upcoming metro projects. These workshops would focus on sharing best practices and key learnings to streamline project implementation.
Public Grievances Review: PM Modi reviewed grievances related to the banking and insurance sectors, stressing the need for not only quicker resolutions but also higher-quality responses to address the concerns of the public effectively.
Since its inception, PRAGATI has reviewed 363 projects valued at ₹19.12 lakh crore, demonstrating the government’s commitment to proactive governance and timely project implementation.
