Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in Delhi as a grand celebration of the Northeast’s vibrant culture, craftsmanship, and economic potential. The festival, held at Bharat Mandapam from December 6 to 8, 2024, highlighted the textiles, tourism, and traditional arts of the eight Northeastern states collectively known as Ashtalakshmi for symbolizing prosperity and growth.
The Mahotsav showcased Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products, traditional handlooms, and opportunities for investment in tourism and other industries. The event emphasized community participation, economic development, and the strategic importance of the Northeast as a gateway to Southeast Asia. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia noted that the festival aligns with PM Modi’s vision of making the Northeast a key driver of India’s growth story.
