PM Announces Ex-Gratia Relief for Karur Rally Tragedy Victims

New Delhi / Karur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned ex-gratia assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to support families affected by the devastating stampede at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

As part of the relief package:

  • ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased.
  • ₹50,000 will be given to those injured in the incident.

The announcement comes as the nation mourns the tragedy, which claimed 39 lives and left several others injured, according to state health authorities.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has also extended state-level assistance, declaring ₹10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh for the injured.

The Prime Minister’s decision underscores the Centre’s commitment to provide immediate relief and ease the suffering of victims’ families, while state and central agencies continue to coordinate support measures in the aftermath of the disaster.
