Pinarayi Vijayan to Meet PM Modi Today: Push for More Aid and AIIMS in Wayanad

New Delhi: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital today, with a strong focus on securing enhanced central assistance for the Wayanad relief and reconstruction package, along with a long-pending demand for establishing an AIIMS in Kerala. The high-level meeting is expected to take place at 10 a.m.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister held a series of discussions with top Union Ministers, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Health Minister J. P. Nadda, and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. Today’s meeting with the Prime Minister is seen as a follow-up to those talks, which aimed at strengthening Kerala’s case for greater central support.

The state has sought ₹2,000 crore for Wayanad’s reconstruction after the recent disaster, but only ₹206.56 crore has been sanctioned so far. Vijayan’s visit comes amid political tensions in Kerala over the Sabarimala gold plating controversy, adding further significance to his Delhi engagements.

During his meeting with Amit Shah, the Chief Minister discussed key issues, including internal and coastal security, women’s safety, forensic infrastructure, and modernization of emergency services. In his talks with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Vijayan called for easing borrowing limits to ensure uninterrupted welfare and development programs, and urged the Centre to compensate Kerala for its GST-related revenue losses.
