Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has extended strong support to Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin’s campaign against the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise, which seeks to redraw parliamentary constituencies based on population figures. Vijayan has confirmed his participation in a high-profile solidarity meeting scheduled for March 22 in Chennai, aimed at forging a united front against the move.
Stalin has reached out to chief ministers and leaders from seven states—Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, West Bengal, Odisha, and Punjab—urging them to form a Joint Action Committee to resist the delimitation plan. He argues that the proposal unfairly impacts states that have successfully implemented population control measures, potentially diminishing their representation in Parliament.
The Centre’s plan has triggered widespread concerns, as it could shift political power towards more populous states, raising questions about federal balance and state autonomy. The upcoming Chennai meeting is expected to be a crucial step in consolidating opposition voices and ensuring that the interests of all states are represented in the debate.
By aligning with Stalin, Vijayan reinforces the call for equitable representation and the protection of India’s federal structure, signaling a growing resistance against policies perceived as centralizing power at the expense of regional influence.
