New Delhi: Marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an emotional tribute to those who endured the “upheaval and pain” of the 1947 Partition, calling it a “tragic chapter of our history.” He lauded the courage and resilience of survivors who, despite unimaginable loss, rebuilt their lives and contributed immensely to the nation. In a heartfelt message on X, PM Modi urged citizens to honour their memory by strengthening the bonds of harmony across the country. Union ministers including Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, S. Jaishankar, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Piyush Goyal also recalled the human cost of the Partition, emphasising the importance of unity and compassion. Observed annually on August 14, the day stands as a solemn reminder of one of history’s largest forced migrations, which displaced up to 20 million people and claimed as many as 2 million lives. Cultural institutions such as the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts are hosting exhibitions, seminars, and memorial events, while several states, including Maharashtra, have directed schools to hold commemorations to reinforce historical awareness and national solidarity.
