Nagpur/New Delhi – High drama unfolded mid-air on Tuesday as an IndiGo flight (6E 2706), operating on the Muscat–Kochi–Delhi route, was forced to make an emergency landing in Nagpur after a bomb threat was received via email.
The aircraft, carrying 157 passengers and 6 crew members, safely landed at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, where all passengers were swiftly deplaned. Authorities, including the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee, launched an intensive inspection but found no suspicious items on board.
While the threat was later determined to be non-substantive, officials said it was serious and specific enough to warrant immediate diversion. IndiGo and airport security followed all standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring complete passenger safety.
The incident is the latest in a string of aviation-related bomb threats in India. Just a day earlier, a Lufthansa flight en route to Hyderabad was rerouted back to Frankfurt after a similar threat. These repeated alerts are reinforcing India’s robust aviation security response.
Investigations are underway to trace the source of the threatening email and determine whether it was a hoax or a targeted attempt to disrupt operations.
This episode underscores the airline industry’s zero-tolerance policy for such threats and the swift coordination between aviation authorities and law enforcement to avert potential crises.
