Northern Kerala Delivers a Resounding Verdict: Massive 75.38% Turnout in Second-Phase Local Elections

Kozhikode: Northern Kerala turned out in full strength as the second phase of the local body elections concluded with an impressive 75.38% voter turnout, reflecting strong public engagement and high political enthusiasm. Voting began at 7 a.m. and continued steadily until closing time at 6 p.m., marking a peaceful and energetic polling day across the region.

Voters from Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod cast their ballots today, shaping the final chapter of the two-phase election. Among them, Wayanad emerged as the most active, recording a remarkable 77.34% turnout, showcasing the district’s heightened electoral spirit. Thrissur, meanwhile, registered the lowest turnout at 71.88%, though still robust.

Other districts also posted strong numbers:
Malappuram (76.85%), Kozhikode (76.47%), Kannur (75.73%), Palakkad (75.6%), and Kasaragod (74.03%), reinforcing the overall trend of high participation across northern Kerala.

The first phase of polling, held on December 9, saw voters from seven southern districts turn up at the booths. With both rounds now complete, Kerala has successfully wrapped up its local election process. Vote counting is set for December 13, when the final political picture will come into sharp focus.
