New Zealand has introduced significant changes to its Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV) policies, enhancing opportunities for international students. Under the revised rules, students completing a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) of at least 30 weeks are now eligible for a PSWV, even if they transition to a Master’s degree without fulfilling the full 30-week requirement for the Master’s course. Additionally, those who complete a qualifying qualification and move to a higher-level course that doesn’t meet PSWV criteria can apply for the visa within 12 months of their initial qualification.
These changes aim to make it easier for graduates, particularly in high-demand fields like teaching and engineering, to stay and work in New Zealand. The eligibility criteria have been expanded to include more qualifications, which will help graduates gain work experience and remain in the country longer. With this move, New Zealand seeks to attract skilled workers at a time when other countries are tightening immigration policies, ensuring it remains a competitive destination for global talent.
