New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that nearly 44,000 startups were registered in 2025, marking the highest annual addition since the launch of the Startup India initiative. PM was speaking at a programme held in New Delhi to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Startup India.

Highlighting the rapid growth of India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, the Prime Minister said the country now has over 2 lakh registered startups spread across diverse sectors and regions. Prime Minister Modi noted that the startup movement has expanded far beyond metropolitan cities, with Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities emerging as major hubs of innovation. PM said this reflects the inclusive nature of the ecosystem, which provides opportunities for young entrepreneurs from all sections of society.

The Prime Minister credited policy reforms, improved ease of doing business, digital infrastructure, and access to funding for the sector’s success. PM said startups are playing a transformative role in areas such as technology, manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, fintech, and clean energy, while also generating large-scale employment.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), the Prime Minister said startups will continue to be a key pillar of India’s economic growth, innovation, and global leadership in the years ahead.
