Nationwide Uprising Today Against New Labour Codes; Trade Unions to Burn Copies in Mass Protest

In a powerful show of resistance, ten major trade unions will lead a nationwide protest today against the central government’s newly introduced labour codes. As a symbolic act of defiance, protesters across the country will burn copies of the labour codes, with demonstrations planned in district centers, state capitals, and villages.

Trade unions and agricultural workers’ groups argue that the four labour codes dilute workers’ rights and protections, demanding their immediate withdrawal. They are also calling on the Centre to honor the commitments it made during the settlement phase of the historic farmers’ protest.

The nationwide agitation comes on the fifth anniversary of the farmers’ movement against the repealed farm laws, adding further momentum to the protests.

Organizations including CITU and other major trade unions—excluding BMS—have vowed to continue their struggle until the labour codes are fully rolled back. Farmer unions have extended strong support, creating a united front against the contentious reforms.
