Nationwide Security Alert: Kerala Dams Under Tight Watch Amid Intelligence Warning

Thiruvananthapuram – Heightened security is in place across Kerala’s major dams following a nationwide alert issued by the Central Government in response to fresh intelligence warnings. The alert, aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure, has prompted a swift and coordinated response in Kerala, particularly around sensitive hydro-engineering sites.

Security has been ramped up at key dams including Idukki, Mullaperiyar, Kakki, Idamalayar, and Malampuzha, with increased surveillance, restricted access zones, and intensified patrolling by local police and dam authorities.

State officials confirmed that emergency protocols have been activated, and coordination with central agencies is ongoing to ensure 24/7 monitoring. Visitor access to many dam premises has been temporarily limited as a precautionary measure.

Both the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and the Irrigation Department have been placed on high alert, working closely with law enforcement to maintain strict vigilance.

Although no direct threat to Kerala has been identified, officials are treating the alert with the utmost seriousness, urging the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity near dam sites.
