Nation Mourns: PM Modi Pays Final Respects to Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his final respects to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Known as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, Dr. Singh served as the nation’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leaving behind a legacy of transformative policies and steady leadership.

A state funeral was held in New Delhi, with Dr. Singh’s body draped in the national flag and carried in a ceremonial procession to Nigambodh Ghat for cremation. The solemn ceremony witnessed the presence of dignitaries, including Prime Minister Modi, who paid tribute to Dr. Singh’s immense contributions to the nation.

During his tenure, Dr. Singh steered India through a period of remarkable economic growth and forged the historic civil nuclear agreement with the United States. Despite challenges, including corruption allegations during his second term, he is remembered as a leader of integrity and vision.

The nation has declared a seven-day period of state mourning to honor Dr. Singh, reflecting on his profound impact on India’s progress and his unwavering dedication to public service.
