Washington: Imposing additional tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil will increase pressure on Moscow and push President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, said Scott Bessent, a senior U.S. official, in an interview with NBC News.
Bessent revealed that President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance held a “very productive” call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on strategies to curb Russia’s revenue from energy exports.
The discussions highlighted the West’s intent to tighten economic measures against Moscow, while ensuring coordinated efforts with Europe to safeguard global energy markets.
