The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for five northern Kerala districts — Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram — warning of moderate to heavy rainfall (7–12 cm) within 24 hours. The alert comes amid the active southwest monsoon season, with isolated thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 40 km/h expected across the state.
Looking ahead, the alert has been extended to eight districts tomorrow, including Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur, indicating the widespread nature of the monsoon’s impact.
Residents are advised to take precautions: avoid vulnerable areas during storms, secure loose items outdoors, and ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging. With the potential for travel disruptions, reduced visibility, and minor flooding, the IMD urges the public to stay updated on local weather bulletins.
As Kerala braces for continued downpours, authorities are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing preparedness and caution in the days ahead.
