New Delhi: Iconic Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been selected for the 2023 Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema. The award, which includes a ₹10 lakh cash prize, will be presented on September 23 at the National Film Awards ceremony in New Delhi.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting praised Mohanlal’s remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, noting that his decades-long career has inspired generations of film lovers and artists alike.
This marks only the second time a Malayali has received the award, after filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan in 2004. Last year, the honour went to veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty.
Instituted in 1969 in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, hailed as the “Father of Indian Cinema”, the award celebrates lifetime achievements and remains the pinnacle of recognition in Indian film history.
