Mohanlal Named KSRTC Goodwill Ambassador as Transport Corporation Records Historic Revenue Surge

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major boost to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal has agreed to serve as the Goodwill Ambassador of the state-run transport utility. Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar announced that the actor accepted the role free of charge, expressing personal interest and goodwill towards KSRTC.

Speaking at a press conference, the minister said Mohanlal has also agreed to collaborate in KSRTC’s promotional campaigns, with plans to produce high-quality advertisement films featuring renowned directors. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the public image of KSRTC and reconnecting with passengers across the state.

Ganesh Kumar also confirmed that he will contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Pathanapuram, expressing confidence of a decisive victory. He said the people of Pathanapuram take pride in the fact that their MLA and minister is leading KSRTC through a period of revival and growth.

Meanwhile, KSRTC has achieved a historic milestone in revenue generation, recording its highest-ever single-day income. On January 5, the corporation earned ₹13.01 crore, including ₹12.18 crore from ticket sales and ₹0.83 crore from non-ticket revenue. Praising the workforce, the minister credited the achievement to collective effort and dedication, stating that KSRTC employees have once again proved that no goal is unattainable.

KSRTC’s Budget Tourism Project also posted record-breaking figures in December, generating ₹5.51 crore, the highest monthly revenue since the scheme’s launch in 2021. This surpassed the previous monthly record of ₹4.5 crore set in December 2024.

According to State Budget Tourism Coordinator R. Sunil Kumar, the success was driven by attractive tour packages and an overwhelming public response. Budget tourism services were operated from 80 of KSRTC’s 90 depots, with 2,505 trips conducted in December alone, enabling 1,16,300 passengers to explore various tourist and pilgrimage destinations across Kerala.

With Mohanlal as its goodwill ambassador and record revenues to its credit, KSRTC appears to be charting a confident path towards renewal and public trust.
