New Delhi: On the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address from the historic Red Fort, declaring the Constitution as the nation’s guiding light and unity as the day’s central message. Amid the tricolour fluttering high, Modi hailed the collective spirit of India’s 1.4 billion citizens, calling the day “a festival of pride.” Before the ceremony, he paid floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Raj Ghat.
Sending a clear message to Pakistan, Modi warned against nuclear intimidation and firmly stated there would be no reconsideration of the Indus Water Treaty, emphasising, “Blood and water cannot flow together.” He lauded the courage of soldiers involved in Operation Sindoor, vowing that terrorists and those who support them will face fitting retribution.
Recalling harrowing incidents in Pahalgam, where terrorists murdered family members before their loved ones, Modi said the Indian Army’s strong response under Operation Sindoor was backed by complete operational freedom from the government.
In his address,Modi honoured freedom fighters and the framers of the Constitution, making a special mention of Dakshayani Velayudhan, the trailblazing Malayali leader.
Security in the capital was unprecedented, with over 11,000 security personnel, 3,000 traffic police officers, and citywide surveillance ensuring a safe celebration. This marks Modi’s 12th consecutive Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, reinforcing his vision of a strong, united India.
