New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were thrown into disarray after a technical failure in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system triggered massive delays on Friday. The disruption, which began late Thursday evening, continued into the next morning, causing over 100 flight delays and widespread inconvenience to passengers.
In a statement, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed that a malfunction in the ATC system had disrupted operations. “Due to a technical issue in the Air Traffic Control system, flight movements at IGI Airport are experiencing temporary delays. Our team is working closely with all stakeholders to resolve the problem at the earliest. Passengers are requested to stay updated through their respective airlines,” the statement said.
According to PTI, nearly 100 flights were affected, with average delays of about 50 minutes, as reported by FlightRadar24, a global flight-tracking service.
Airport authorities assured that restoration efforts are underway to bring operations back to normal and reduce passenger inconvenience. The unexpected glitch at one of India’s busiest airports underscores the vulnerability of critical aviation infrastructure and the urgent need for system resilience and backup mechanisms to avoid such large-scale disruptions in the future.
