LPG Supply Crisis Triggers Protest in Lok Sabha; Speaker Om Birla Calls for Order

New Delhi: Protests erupted in the Parliament of India on Thursday as Opposition members raised the issue of an alleged LPG shortage affecting several parts of the country. The demonstrations disrupted proceedings in the Lok Sabha shortly after the House convened for the day.

Members of the Opposition demanded an immediate discussion on the LPG supply crisis, claiming that restaurants, hotels, and households in several cities are facing difficulties in obtaining cooking gas cylinders. They accused the government of failing to address the growing shortage and urged authorities to take urgent measures to restore normal supplies.

Amid the protests, Om Birla urged members to maintain order and allow the scheduled Question Hour to proceed. However, Opposition MPs continued raising slogans and pressing for a debate on the LPG issue.

Despite repeated appeals from the Speaker to follow parliamentary rules and procedures, the disruptions persisted. With the House unable to conduct its business smoothly, proceedings were adjourned temporarily.

The protests come amid reports of supply disruptions in several major cities, raising concerns among the hospitality sector and consumers about the availability of cooking gas. The government has asked oil companies to take steps to increase LPG production and ensure adequate supply to meet demand.
