New Delhi: The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders has been increased by ₹50, impacting both regular consumers and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that starting April 8, 2025, a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder will cost ₹853 for general consumers, up from ₹803. For PMUY beneficiaries, the price will rise from ₹503 to ₹553.
The minister clarified that this price revision is temporary and will be reviewed every two to three weeks. Addressing concerns over fuel prices, he noted that the recent ₹2 per litre increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel is meant to compensate oil marketing companies for their ₹43,000 crore loss due to gas subsidies, and it will not lead to higher prices at fuel pumps.
The hike is expected to put additional pressure on household budgets, especially for low-income families that depend on subsidized LPG cylinders for cooking.
