KSEB’s Time-of-Day Billing to Impact Lakhs of Consumers Amid Opposition Criticism

The Kerala State Electricity Board’s (KSEB) new Time-of-Day billing will affect 7.9 lakh domestic consumers, introducing variable rates based on peak and non-peak hours. The revised structure aims to manage power demand but has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition, who argue it will burden consumers, especially in rural areas. The billing encourages reducing usage during peak hours (6 PM to 10 PM) by charging higher rates during these times and offering discounts during off-peak hours.

The opposition accuses the government of failing to consider the economic impact on the public, particularly amid rising costs and inflation.
