Kollam Woman’s Body Brought Home from Sharjah for Repostmortem Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations

Thiruvananthapuram: In a heartbreaking development, the body of Vipanchika Maniyan (33)—a Kollam native who was found dead along with her young daughter in Sharjah—was flown back to Kerala on Tuesday evening. Her remains arrived at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport via an Air India Express flight from the UAE.

The decision to conduct a repostmortem was taken following a request by the family, seeking clarity over the exact cause of death. The body was transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for further examination. Once the postmortem is complete, it will be taken to her hometown in Kollam, where the funeral is scheduled for 3 PM today.

Vipanchika and her daughter Vaibhavi were discovered hanging in their apartment in Al Nahda, Sharjah on July 8, in what authorities initially concluded as a suspected murder-suicide. Investigators believe the mother may have first hanged her daughter before taking her own life.

Adding to the distress, Vipanchika’s family has raised serious allegations of domestic abuse by her husband, claiming it to be the reason behind the deaths. They have called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Earlier, Vaibhavi’s body was cremated with Hindu rituals at the Jebel Ali crematorium in Dubai.
