Kharge’s ‘illiterate’ remark on Gujarat sparks row during Kerala campaign

Idukki: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday triggered a controversy during an election rally in Kerala after he appeared to describe people of Gujarat as “illiterate” and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misleading them.

Addressing a poll meeting in Idukki, Kharge said that people in Kerala are “educated and aware” and cannot be easily misled. He contrasted this with voters in Gujarat and other regions, claiming they were being “fooled”.

Kharge also took aim at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, stating that neither Modi nor Vijayan would be able to mislead the people of Kerala.

The remarks come amid intensified campaigning ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections, and are likely to draw sharp reactions from political opponents.
