Kerala’s ASHA Workers to Embark on 45-Day Statewide Protest March Demanding Justice and Fair Pay

In a bold step to amplify their long-standing demands, Kerala’s ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) workers are set to launch a 45-day protest march from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, from May 5 to June 17, 2025. The march comes as their ongoing strike — now entering its 71st day — continues without any response from the state government.

Led by Kerala ASHA Health Workers Association’s State General Secretary, M.A. Bindu, the protest will span all 14 districts of the state, with participants spending nights on the streets to symbolize their hardships. Reception events featuring prominent social and political figures are planned at multiple stops along the way.

The ASHA workers are demanding a hike in their honorarium and retirement benefits, and have strongly criticized the state government for what they call an “anti-democratic and apathetic” stance despite growing public support.

The campaign will culminate in a massive show of unity at the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram on June 17, as thousands of ASHA workers rally together to demand recognition, respect, and justice for their vital role in Kerala’s healthcare system.
