Thiruvananthapuram: The vibrant spirit of Navaratri comes alive in Kerala today as celebrations begin with grand rituals, cultural programs, and musical offerings. This year, the festival is extra special, stretching over 11 days instead of the usual nine, with a unique blend of tradition and festivity.
The highlight days include Mahanavami on the tenth day and Vijayadashami on the eleventh. Book worship (Poojavayppu) will span four days, starting September 29, while the auspicious Vidyarambham—the initiation into learning—will be celebrated on October 2.
Across temples in the state, including the famed Kollur Mookambika Temple, devotees will immerse themselves in prayer, music, and art. In Thiruvananthapuram, Navaratri idols will be ceremoniously welcomed today, marking the official start of festivities.
At Paravur Dakshina Mookambika Temple, the celebrations open this evening at 6:30 p.m. with a music festival inaugurated by renowned music director Vidyadharan Master. The event, presided over by P. Venugopal, will feature Thiruvathirakali, Bharatanatyam, and Sangeetarchana. A series of musical performances will continue throughout the festival, adding to the devotional fervor.
