Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Meteorological Department has updated its rainfall warnings, withdrawing the earlier Red Alert issued for three districts. Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram may still experience isolated heavy showers today, according to the revised advisory.
To ensure safety, an Orange Alert has been declared for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
The heavy rainfall is caused by low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, which are expected to trigger thunderstorms over the coming days. The Meteorological Department defines very heavy rainfall as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
Today, all districts have some level of rainfall warning. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur, and Kasaragod are likely to see isolated intense showers, prompting Yellow Alerts.
Looking ahead, heavy rain is forecast for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod tomorrow. Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are expected to receive very heavy rainfall on Friday, with Yellow Alerts issued as a precautionary measure.
