Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala, Rathan U. Kelkar, has confirmed that the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) will continue without delay, dismissing speculation about a possible postponement. The draft voters’ list will be published on December 9, exactly as planned.
The clarification comes amid requests from political parties and the state government to defer the revision process, citing the pressure of conducting SIR alongside preparations for the local body elections. Despite these concerns, the CEO stated that separate arrangements have been made to ensure both exercises run smoothly.
The SIR timeline remains unchanged:
- Enumeration began on November 4 and will continue until December 4.
- Over one crore forms have already been distributed across the state.
- Citizens will be able to file claims and objections once the draft roll is released on December 9.
While the government has approached the Kerala High Court seeking a deferment, the CEO reiterated that the revision work is progressing on schedule and will not be affected by the upcoming polls.
With the CEO’s firm stand, the SIR process is set to unfold as originally planned, marking a crucial step toward updating the state’s electoral rolls ahead of future elections.
