Kerala to Disburse ₹3,600 Welfare Pension From Thursday; ₹1,864 Crore Released for Two-Month Payout

Thiruvananthapuram: Lakhs of welfare pension beneficiaries in Kerala will receive ₹3,600 from Thursday as the state government begins distributing two months’ pending pension amounts.

The payout includes ₹1,600, marking the final installment of previously accumulated arrears, along with ₹2,000 as the November pension. With this, the government has fully cleared all outstanding pension dues. The Finance Department had earlier sanctioned ₹1,864 crore on October 31 to facilitate the distribution. A total of 63.77 lakh beneficiaries will receive the amount.

Since March, the government has been releasing pensions every month. Due to the recent ₹400 hike in the monthly pension amount, the cost of distributing one month’s pension has risen from ₹900 crore to ₹1,050 crore.

About half of the beneficiaries will receive their pension directly through bank accounts, while the rest will get it delivered to their homes via cooperative banks.

Over the last nine-and-a-half years, the LDF government has allocated ₹80,671 crore exclusively for welfare pensions—one of the largest such expenditures in the state’s history.
