Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government will begin disbursing welfare pensions for July from this Friday, announced Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal. A total of ₹831 crore has been earmarked to provide ₹1,600 each to around 62 lakh beneficiaries across the state.
More than 26 lakh recipients will receive the pension directly in their bank accounts, while the remaining will get home delivery of the amount through cooperative banks, ensuring smooth and timely disbursal.
To bridge the delay in central funding, the state has also pre-released ₹24.31 crore towards the Centre’s share for 8.46 lakh beneficiaries under the National Pension Scheme. This amount will be credited via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
Highlighting the government’s commitment to social welfare, Minister Balagopal stated that under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s leadership, the second LDF government has spent over ₹38,500 crore in the last four years on social security pension schemes, benefiting the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
