Kerala has made history by becoming the first Indian state to make robotics education compulsory for all Class 10 students, starting from the 2025–26 academic year on June 2. This pioneering step will benefit over 4.3 lakh students, preparing them for a tech-savvy future.
The robotics module, titled “The World of Robots,” has been introduced as the sixth chapter in the ICT textbook. It offers students hands-on experience in building electronic circuits, using sensors and actuators, and programming electronic devices. Students will also undertake real-world projects such as creating automatic hand sanitizer dispensers with Arduino kits and AI-powered smart doors using facial recognition software.
To support this initiative, the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has distributed 29,000 robotic kits to schools, and nearly 10,000 teachers have received training. The textbooks are available in Malayalam, English, Tamil, and Kannada to ensure inclusive learning.
This move follows Kerala’s earlier success in introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Class 7, with AI modules now extended to higher classes. With robotics now part of the curriculum, Kerala is leading the nation in transforming school education for the digital era.
