Kerala Set to Hike Welfare Pension to ₹1,800; Announcement Likely on Kerala Piravi Day

Thiruvananthapuram: In a move aimed at providing relief to thousands of beneficiaries, the Kerala government is preparing to raise the state welfare pension from ₹1,600 to ₹1,800 per month, according to official sources.

The Finance Department is currently reviewing the proposal, and a final decision is expected before the upcoming local body elections.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) had earlier pledged in its manifesto to increase the pension to ₹2,500, and this hike is seen as a first step toward fulfilling that promise.

The decision comes amid a challenging financial situation in the state, but officials say the government remains committed to supporting the economically weaker sections.

If approved, the announcement is likely to be made on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1) — a fitting occasion to reaffirm the state’s dedication to social welfare and inclusive growth.
