Kozhikode: The scare over amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare but deadly brain infection, has deepened in Kerala with a fresh case being reported. A 10-year-old boy from Malappuram has tested positive and is now receiving treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
Doctors confirmed the infection after conducting tests yesterday, following several days of symptoms. The source of the infection remains unclear, and health officials have launched investigations to trace its origin.
Currently, 11 people are under treatment at Kozhikode Medical College, among them the brother of the nine-year-old girl from Korangad who recently succumbed to the disease. With two deaths reported in the past 48 hours, concerns are mounting across the state.
Reassuringly, hospital authorities stated that none of the patients currently admitted are in critical condition.
