Kerala poll campaign to end at 6 pm tomorrow; EC outlines restrictions

Thiruvananthapuram: The campaign for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections will officially end at 6 pm tomorrow, in accordance with election rules, Chief Electoral Officer Ratan U Kelkar said.

The directive has been issued to ensure free and fair polling, as mandated under Representation of the People Act, 1951, which prohibits campaigning for 48 hours prior to voting.

During this “silence period,” no public meetings, rallies, processions, cultural events, or any voter-attracting activities will be allowed. The Election Commission has also barred the display of election-related content on television, cinema, and radio.

Political advertisements in newspapers on polling day and the preceding day will require prior clearance from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.

Officials further stated that party workers and office-bearers from outside constituencies must leave the area once campaigning ends.

The Election Commission has urged all stakeholders to strictly adhere to the guidelines to ensure a smooth and impartial electoral process.
