Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for another spell of heavy rain as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal intensifies weather activity across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode today, warning of rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
Tomorrow, the alert will extend to Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. The IMD has also cautioned about thunderstorms and powerful winds reaching 40–50 km/h in isolated areas.
The low-pressure system, currently positioned over the north-west and west-central Bay of Bengal near the northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha coasts, is expected to drift towards the coastline within the next 24 hours. This shift is likely to intensify rainfall, with heavy downpours predicted for the next five days.
