Kerala on High UV Alert: Orange Warning in Idukki, Yellow Across Most Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is experiencing elevated ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels, with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority issuing an Orange Alert for Idukki and Yellow Alerts for most other districts, excluding Kasaragod, Kannur, and Thiruvananthapuram. Authorities cautioned that UV intensity peaks between 10 am and 3 pm, urging residents to limit direct sun exposure during these hours. Prolonged exposure can trigger sunburn, skin ailments, eye disorders, and other health risks. Outdoor workers, fishermen, bikers, tourists, and individuals with existing skin, eye, or immunity-related conditions have been advised to take extra precautions. Officials recommend protective measures such as wearing hats, sunglasses, carrying umbrellas, and choosing full-coverage cotton clothing. Even under clear skies, UV levels can remain dangerously high—especially in hilly and tropical regions—while reflective surfaces like water bodies and sand can further intensify exposure.
