Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is gearing up for a spell of intense monsoon activity as the Thiruvananthapuram Meteorological Centre issues an orange alert for 10 districts, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next four days.
The alert covers Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode — with the remaining districts also likely to experience significant rainfall under milder warnings.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), active monsoon conditions are being driven by strong weather systems over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, which are intensifying cloud formation and moisture flow into the region.
Precautionary measures are being ramped up across the state, with disaster management teams on standby and local authorities preparing relief camps in vulnerable areas. Residents, especially in landslide-prone hills and flood-sensitive lowlands, are urged to stay alert.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, as turbulent conditions are expected to continue.
The IMD has called on the public to follow regular weather updates and limit travel during periods of heavy rainfall to ensure safety.
