Kerala on Flood Watch: Alerts Issued for Nine Rivers Amid Heavy Rainfall

Thiruvananthapuram: With relentless rains lashing Kerala, the State Disaster Management Authority has issued flood alerts for nine rivers across multiple districts, warning of dangerously rising water levels. Both orange and yellow alerts have been declared based on real-time data from monitoring stations.

Orange Alert Rivers (High Risk):

  • Meenachil (Kottayam)
  • Korapuzha (Kozhikode)
  • Achankovil and Manimala (Pathanamthitta)

Yellow Alert Rivers (Moderate Risk):

  • Vamanapuram (Thiruvananthapuram)
  • Perum (Kannur)
  • Bharathapuzha (Malappuram)
  • Uppala (Kasaragod)
  • Kabani (Wayanad)

The alerts stem from alarming water level readings at key monitoring stations including Perur, Kunnamangalam, Kalleli, Thondara, Kaithapram, Uppala, Thiruvegappura, and several stations along the Kabani River. Additional alerts were triggered by the Central Water Commission’s Muthankara station.

Residents near riverbanks are urged to stay alert, avoid venturing into or crossing rivers, and follow evacuation instructions if issued. The situation remains fluid, and authorities are on high alert, tracking conditions closely.
