Kerala: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an Orange Alert for the districts of Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Malappuram, forecasting moderate to intense rainfall accompanied by gusty winds over the next three hours. According to the latest radar data, wind speeds may reach up to 50 kmph in Thrissur and Ernakulam, and up to 40 kmph in Malappuram.
The intense weather conditions may trigger waterlogging on major roads, leading to traffic snarls and poor visibility for motorists. There is also a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas and along riverbanks, uprooting of trees, and partial damage to houses and huts. Hilly areas may face landslides and landslips, while coastal zones remain vulnerable to structural damage. The heavy rains could also adversely impact humans and livestock.
Residents are strongly advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, avoid vulnerable areas, and follow official safety instructions. Authorities have been urged to regulate traffic and ensure emergency preparedness as the situation evolves.
