Alappuzha: A fresh wave of concern has gripped Kerala as the state reports its second cholera death this year. P.G. Raghu, 48, a resident of Thalavady in Alappuzha, succumbed to the disease in the early hours of the morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvalla.
Raghu had been admitted just two days earlier with symptoms of physical discomfort. Cholera was soon confirmed via blood tests, but his condition rapidly worsened, leading to his untimely demise. Health authorities are still struggling to trace the exact source of the infection, adding to growing public health concerns.
In response, all individuals who had recent contact with Raghu have been placed under medical surveillance, and a regional health alert has been issued to curb potential spread.
This incident follows the recent death of a 63-year-old man from Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram, also due to cholera—marking a troubling pattern. The origin of infection in both cases remains unidentified, prompting fears of an undetected source in the community.
As health officials intensify monitoring efforts, the public is urged to maintain strict hygiene and report any symptoms immediately.
