In a shocking incident, an NCC camp at KMM College of Arts & Science in Thrikkakara, Ernakulam district, was abruptly shut down after over 70 cadets fell ill with symptoms of stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea following lunch on Monday .
The camp, organized by the 21 Kerala Battalion NCC, was supposed to run for 10 days but was halted on its fourth day as the condition of the cadets worsened by evening. The affected cadets were swiftly transported to hospitals, including the Ernakulam Government Medical College, for immediate medical attention.
The alarming situation triggered protests from distressed parents, who gathered at the camp, demanding accountability and expressing outrage over the health crisis. The protests ultimately forced the camp’s closure .
In response, authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the suspected food poisoning. Samples of food and water served at the camp have been collected for testing, and the National Cadet Corps has ordered a departmental inquiry to determine responsibility .
This incident has sparked widespread concerns about food safety standards in such camps, with calls for stricter regulations and oversight to ensure the health and safety of cadets in future training programs.
