Kerala’s Health and Women and Child Development Minister, Veena George, has stressed the need for a more women-friendly film industry, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for women both on and off-screen.
Speaking at the launch of a training program organized by the Women and Child Development Department in collaboration with Gender Park, Minister George emphasized the importance of enforcing the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013, and implementing the recommendations of the Justice Hema Committee report to safeguard women in the industry.
She pointed out that producers, as employers, are responsible for forming Internal Committees to address workplace safety concerns. The initiative has been positively received, with various organizations actively participating in the movement for change.
This training program is part of the Kerala government’s broader efforts to regulate workplace environments in the Malayalam film industry and prevent sexual harassment. The initiative aims to create greater awareness about the POSH Act among industry professionals, ensuring a safer and more inclusive space for women in cinema.
